Preface
Annual Review of Pharmacology
Professor Victor E. Hall, the Editor of the Annual Review of Physiology, says in his current preface that the authors of the Review are selected because they can write good reviews. He has found, interestingly enough, a coincidence of good writing and good investigating, for these men were almost invariably leaders in the development of their fields. We have sought the same two qualities, expert knowledge of the field and readability, in our authors; and from the magnificence of Sir Henry Dale to the charm of Chauncey Leake, the volume encompasses a plentiful amount of both.
We do have one serious regret. Circumstance has made it impossible to include a chapter on microbial chemotherapy which had been especially desired to summarize the splendid advances in this area of pharmacology. It is hoped that future issues will rectify this deficit.
We thank our authors for their expertness; we thank our Editorial Assistant, Mrs. Prudence Whittemore, for her skill in supervising the publication of the volume, and Miss Frances Yost for her diligence and care in the composition of the index.
